Not a particularly large fish, but definitely one of the more exhilarating bites I’ve had on a swimbait. A fresh new look for this coming year. I was going back and forth with my last carving since early July, but something just felt off so I scrapped it and started over. Aside from changes to the head detailing and body shape, I’m also shrinking the length by a quarter inch to make the bait just slightly less intimidating at my local waters. ‼️ NEW PB ALERT ‼️ It has been my goal to catch a 20lb class striped bass for almost as long as I have been making swimbaits. Dave has accomplished this twice already, but my best landed has been stuck at a measly 6lbs-11oz with most of the fish that I do hook coming unpinned. I knew that there was always a chance that the right one would finally stick, but losing quality fish becomes almost depressing when they are so few and far in between.

That said, it only takes one cast. I was out testing my Tracer Trout on the old Irod Gen II Bailey’s Swim and not expecting much of anything when I felt a small tick and instinctively set into something big. I thought I had snagged another carp for a solid two minutes as my kayak was towed around and spun in circles. Then the fish came up and I realized I had my dream striper at the end of the line.

At 30lbs-15oz and about 43in long, this monster totally blew my old pb out of the water and skipped the 10lb and 20lb weight classes entirely. I was stoked to be able to land this fish, share the catch with my brother, and release her alive and well for the next angler to pursue. I have been back out almost every week since without a bite, but remember: it only takes one cast. Keep on casting!

The master isn’t as clean or refined as usual due to the rush, but I kind of like the rougher, more “natural” look.
